Will they only stop with the patrol or are Avon and Dayna next? Things to look for: A very nice whodunit in space. Get ready to welcome two new crew members. Best Quote: Dayna: Avon why do you keep things to yourself? Why so secretive? Avon: Perhaps I'm shy. (Reviewed by Nicole Petty.) Vila fans rejoice! There is a nice piece of dialogue between Vila, Avon, and Cally. Best Quote: Vila: There's no volcano alive that dare to swallow Avon. He's cold enough to put out the fire anyway. (Reviewed by Nicole Petty.) DAWN OF THE GODS #30 (Series C) Written by James Follet Directed by Desmond McCarthy Airdate: 1/28/80 Cast: Paul Darrow (Avon), Jan Chappell (Cally), Michael Keating (Vila), Steven Pacey (Tarrant), Josette Simon (Dayna), Peter Tuddenham (Zen, ORAC), Sam Dastor (The Caliph), Terry Scully (Groff), Marcus Powell (The Thaarn). Cally is separated from the others and offered rule of the universe with the Thaarn. Cally accepts. Meanwhile the others try to figure out their escape before the Liberator is torn apart for its herculanium. Things to look for: The crew, including Orac, playing Galactic Monopoly. Some really great BBC props.... Best Quote: Vila: I'm in hell and it's full of Avons. (Reviewed by Nicole Petty.) The Harvest of Kairos #31 (Series C) Written by Ben Steed Directed by Gerald Blake Airdate: 2/4/80 Cast: Paul Darrow (Avon), Jan Chappell (Cally), Michael Keating (Vila), Jacqueline Pearce (Servalan), Steven Pacey (Tarrant), Josette Simon (Dayna), Peter Tuddenham (Zen, ORAC), Andrew Burt (Jarvik), Frank Gatliff (Dastor), Anthony Gardner (Shad), Charles Jamieson (Guard), Sam Davies (Carlon), Christopher Douglas (First/Third Leader), Hywel David (Interceptor Captain/ Second Leader) Plot Summary: Servalan's new right hand man and tactical advisor takes Tarrant on in a battle of strategy in space and on foot on the deadly planet of Kairos; Avon's obsessive search for an elusive new weapon hinders the Liberator crew's efficiency but saves them in the end. There are some really great poses in this episode: 1. Servalan's grandiose pose, arms outstretched as she stands in front of her guards asking "Will you obey me?". Unfortunately, this is not the best time for this position as she is obstructing her guards when demanding protection from Jarvik. 2. Jarvik's superman pose, hands on hips as he listens to Servalan. 3. Servalan's "The Price is Right" gesture and subsequent pose as she shows Jarvik the Liberator (upside down) and informs him that it is his to command. Firsts: This is the first time Servalan is actually on board the Liberator. This is the first time we see a B.E.M. (Bug Eyed Monster). Great Scenes: When Avon's pet rock explodes while the rest of the crew is preparing for the attack. The scenes between Servalan and Jarvik are interesting. Jarvik throws Servalan around and tells her to shut up with great masculine gusto, which borders on chauvinism. Great Speeches: [When Servalan inquires why Jarvik gave up his command] JARVIK: Because I'm a human being. SERVALAN: But is that a reason to... JARVIK: And so are you. But when was the last time you felt the warmth of the Earth's sun on your naked back? Or lifted your face to the heavens, and laughed with the joy of being alive? How long since you wept at the death of a friend? Doesn't mean a thing to you does it, Madam President? You've surrounded yourself with machines and weapons, mindless men and heartless mutoids; and when they've done your work, and the machines have done your thinking, what is there left in you that feels?! Questions: Why does Cally just watch as Jarvik and Dayna fight, when she was told to get Dayna and bring her to the landing module? It's a good thing that Dayna was teleported to the ship because there were only (4) seats in the landing module. Why did Shad have to walk across the room to kill Dayna? He was standing right next to her and could have done the deed from that position. Vila has exceptional hearing. He heard Jarvik telling Dayna that the creature in front of her wanted the Kairopan she had on her person. Jarvik was not talking that loud and Vila was quite a distance away from Jarvik, Dayna and Tarrant. (Reviewed by Jacie -- Sinnead@aol.com) CITY AT THE EDGE OF THE WORLD #32 (Series C) Written by Chris Boucher Directed by Vere Lorrimer Airdate: 2/11/80 Cast: Paul Darrow (Avon), Jan Chappell (Cally), Michael Keating (Vila), Steven Pacey (Tarrant), Josette Simon (Dayna), Peter Tuddenham (Zen, ORAC), Carol Hawkins (Kerril),Colin Baker (Bayban), John J.Carney (Sherm), Valentine Dyall (Norl). Alternative Title: Is this the room where the Dr Who reunion is being held? Summary: The ship is in need of crystals for the weaponry system. Tarrant has made a deal with the natives on a planet called Keezarn. In exchange they want someone with expertise at opening doors. Tarrant bullies Vila into going. Vila must go unarmed and alone. Cally teleports down after Vila to retrieve the box of crystals. Vila is led to what the locals call the city at the edge of the world, where he meets Bayban the Butcher, a reowned murderer. Bayban informs Vila that Tarrant did a deal without seeing the crystals, and for fun he gave them a bomb to play with. "Cally!" Vila exclaims. Bayban then tells Vila he has one hour to open the door or Bayban will kill him. Bayban produces a knife tracing Vila's throat.... Things to look for: How many ex-Dr Who actors can you spot? There are at least five. There are some wonderful Avon and Cally scenes. This episode was written to show Vila off as the hero after Micheal Keating's daughter complained that Vila was always the victim. Colin Baker gives an outstanding performance as Bayban! Best Quotes: Bayban: My mother, yes I had a mother, a wonderfully evil person. Babe, she use to say, she called, me babe. Treat every hour as if it where your last... Vila: All my life there's been people like you. Tarrant: I thought I was unique. Vila: You're not even unusual, Tarrant. (Reviewed by Nicole Petty.) CHILDREN OF AURON #33 (Series C) Written by Robert Parks Directed by Andrew Morgan Airdate: 2/18/80 CAST: Paul Darrow (Avon), Jan Chappell (Cally, Zelda), Michael Keating (Vila), Jacqueline Pearce (Servalan), Steven Pacey (Tarrant), Josette Simon (Dayna), Peter Tuddenham (Zen, ORAC), Rio Fanning (Deral), Ric Young (Ginka), Jack McKenzie (Patar), Beth Harris (CA Two), Ronald Leigh-Hunt (CA One), Sarah Atkinson(Franton), Michael Troughton (Pilot Four-Zero). PLOT SUMMARY: Cally's twin sister, Zelda, sends out a telepathic distress signal when the planet Auron is ravaged by a plague which has, in fact, been unleashed on the pacifist Aurons by Servalan in an attempt to capture the Liberator and its crew. GREAT LINES: Cally: "Why do you imagine I've never gone back...affection for him?" COSTUMES: Avon's silver tunic resurfaces again but this time with a slit. GENERAL COMMENTS: Why do Vila and Dayna look so worried when Servalan says the only cure for the plague is on her ship when ORAC already cured Patar quite easily? Servalan's sensors detect movement and it just happens to be Avon and company. Aren't there any other people around or are they all dead by this time? If Frantan won't let Avon, Cally and Tarrant in the room because they are diseased, why does she let them waltz in a few minutes later? Ric Young (Ginka) does a great portrayal of an ambitious, hateful Federation officer. (Reviewed by Jacie -- Sinnead@aol.com)
